Fallout brick building attempt

posted Jul 17, 2018 07:44:50 by MarcT
Hopefully this posts correctly (had a few issues getting the account creation to work, think I've got it now).

With the shipping date getting closer, I finally finished my first piece of Fallout terrain (well, my first large piece of terrain full stop really)! It took quite a bit longer than I was expecting to scribe and paint all of the individual bricks, but the 3D effect is well worth the extra effort I think. It's mostly just foamboard for the walls, and plasticard (styrene) sheets for the window frames/flooring planks. I used miliput to sculpt out the rough shape of the rubble, which was then impanted with cut up plasticard and a few extra details before being covered in modelling sand for a rougher texture.

The Mr Takahashi was 3D printed, and the radioactive barrels are just scatter terrain that can be taken off and moved around as desired.

If anyone has any tips for terrain like this they'd be much appreciated as I haven't tried doing it before, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with how it came out!

I'm not a great painter, but I'm told I paint to "tabletop quality" by some people who know what they're doing.

Looking at your terrain there, my first thought is that if you hit the building with a dark brown or black wash (Maybe a brown/red wash given it's brick work, though I've never tried the combination myself) it would make the gaps between bricks look a little deeper and the whole place would have a dirtier feel to it.

All of that said, your piece looks great, it's going to be a lot of fun to play with.

Seeing stuff like this wishes I had any artistic talent. These pieces look fantastic.
