Rally Task

posted Apr 27, 2018 17:12:57 by PatricHenson
When using the rally task, could the captain use the comm system to speak to the whole crew and be assisted by the ship's Communications + Engineering? It doesn't say that specifically, but it seems like it would make sense. On the other hand, it's already a 0 difficulty Task.

If you compare this to the Damage Report Task (which is assisted by the ship's Communications + Engineering), I think it is slightly different. Damage reports use the ship's systems to precisely isolate the damaged areas and relay that information to the appropriate crew. If your ship has a bad Engineering Department, damage reports might not be as accurate.

Rally on the other hand basically only uses the ship's internal Comm System. What would a bad Comm System mean? The captain's voice isn't heard clearly? I think this is unrealistic. I would not roll ship assistance if the ship does not clearly help in some way, or if a bad/good system would not influence the result. Internal comms just work. The ship won't assist with Structure + Engineering if you look out of the window for example.

The Deploy Security Task also is not assisted by the ship's Communications + Engineering for the same reason I would think.

Also, since the Rally Task is specifically to generate Momentum, assists from the ship would be cheating a little.

That's perfect Shran! Thank you. I was trying to flesh out why else I felt it wasn't right, but I couldn't put it together. That's a perfect example and explanation!
