A "quick" demo adventure recommendation

posted Feb 05, 2018 05:08:09 by rrcautela007
Hello!

Has anyone succesfully run a 4-hour (give or take) Conan convention-style adventure from any of the already published ones?

I gave The Red Pit a spin but found it a bit too long (however it could be that I am a bit too dense - LOL).

Maybe Vultures Over Shem or perhaps The Pit of Kuthallu would serve nicely as a swell intro to Conan?

Thanks!

Vultures of Shem could work though I'd hesitate if I were on a tight time schedule. I haven't run the Pit of Kotallu but just from reading it, I think it could fit very well in a 4 hour slot.

We started "Pact of Xialbalba" yesterday. We played out the sinking part at the beginning quite a bit but if you keep that short - after all, it is inevitable - I think you could run that in 4 hours as well.

Oh, the very first adventure we played while Conan was still playtested. I forgot the adventure's title but it revolved around warning aquilonian settlers of an impending Pict attack. That did work very well.

The Pit of Kutallu would be ideal. My group ran Vultures of Shem, and although you could squeeze it within a 4 hour window, it would be tight. Good luck with whatever you run.

What did you think of the adventure as a GM?

Its superb! In concept and execution, very flexible. Only a few minor errors mar it.

Very evocative. Did ya write it? LoL

No, I didn't :-).

We concluded our Conan play with "Devils under grenn stars" last sunday but there are still two adventures unplayed for when we have nothing else and the Pit of Kotallu is one of them. (The other one being the thief adventure, The House of K-something").

Hellos!

Oddly enuff, retried the adventure @ a virtual con -- and it rocked! We were playing w the bare minimums: not even video enabled. It felt like a throwback to the days of radio or raconteuring, REH style!
