Details on Doomtroopers

posted Jan 03, 2018 16:24:03 by drkrash1969
I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with the nature of Doomtroopers in the setting. For what was, in earlier editions, the Elite of the Elite of humanity's fight against the Legion, they seem to get very little play in 3rd edition.

In earlier editions, Doomtroopers were truly elite soldiers that worked in pairs with another member of their corporation, and one was a ranged specialist and one was a CC specialist. They were the heroes and poster boys for the human fight against the darkness.

What little I can glean from the 3rd edition is that they are corporate troops loaned out to the Cartel to fight the Legion specifically. But there no longer seems to be any references to operating in pairs, or to them being from the same corporation, or to being specialists in one kind of combat. Most especially, given the write-up of the Cartel as the place where most corporations send human resources that couldn't better serve the corporation directly, it seems the Doomtroopers are no longer the heroes they once were. In the Cartel book, the adventure that serves as a "history lesson" of the Doomtroopers' founding makes them loners and disciplinary cases (more like the Free Marines).

I'd prefer my Doomtroopers to be more like "international Navy SEALS" in my game, in both skill and public reputation, but I was just wondering if I had missed something in reading all the books. Thanks.

Quote from the MC3 rulebook: ''On the field they operate in units of two Doomtroopers. These super-soldiers are trained in all aspects of combat, and one specialises in close combat whilst the other is a support weapons specialist. They are selected from the finest soldiers in the solar system. Once recruited they leave the employ of their corporation, and are given extensive additional training in anti-Legion warfare by serving Doomtroopers, as well as receiving special blessings from the Brotherhood that raise their combat abilities to superhuman levels. Once training is complete, their loyalty is no longer to their original corporation but to humanity. They know that once they have joined the Doomtroopers they will never leave. A few may live to retire in secure facilities operated by the Inquisition, but almost all die in the field.''

Heh. I guess that answers that. I didn't re-read that section at the end; I was only looking at the Iconic career description.

Thanks.
