Shipping update

posted Oct 11, 2017 00:11:23 by SteveHanson
From Chris Birch

We're emailing all outstanding customers with an update - the factory has had some delays due to the frankfurt book fair (which is the equivalent of GenCon for gaming but on a gigantic worldwide scale) so production times have been shifting more than planned (some items went in to production later as previously explained due to approvals and that's caused us to get stuck in some of the chaos around the book fair). Anyway here's what we're emailing out so it's clear. This could still change - shipments are planned but there can still be delays (trucks are at a premium due to the fair) out of our control but we're emailing customers if anything changes to let them know.

BORG CUBES
Our factory has just notified us that they will be shipping the first batch of 90 Borg cubes to us this week. This means they’ll be ready to ship the week beginning Monday 16th October. After those first 90, the factory will send us the following 350 or so preorders in waves so that we can fulfil them as they come in over two weeks from Monday 16th. Orders will be fulfilled in order of purchase, so the first 90 orders will be sent out first, then the remaining cubes after that. Customers in the United States should be aware that delivery of these items can take 10 days. Tracking details are provided at the point of dispatching them in the UK, but the actual information will not be live until the packages are ready to go out of the country, around 48 hours later. These are limited, expensive items, and we’ve taken every effort to make sure they arrive in a timely manner and in perfect condition.

BORG DRONES
Borg drone bundles have been completed by our factory and are being shipped to our warehouse, meaning we can fulfil orders. These are due to be shipped from our warehouse at the beginning of next week, from Monday 16th October. Customers in the United States should be aware that delivery of these orders can take around 10 days. Tracking details are provided at the point of dispatching them in the UK, but the actual information will not be live until the packages are ready to go out of the country, around 48 hours later. These are limited, expensive items, and we’ve taken every effort to make sure they arrive in a timely manner and in perfect condition.

STARTER BUNDLES AND TILE SETS
Gamemaster Screens have been printed by our factory and are being shipped to our warehouse. They are due in, by the end of this week and so we can begin fulfilment of these items from Monday 16th October. Customers in the United States should be aware that delivery of these items can take 10 days. Tracking details are provided at the point of dispatching them in the UK, but the actual information will not be live until the packages are ready to go out of the country, around 48 hours later.

THESE ARE THE VOYAGES
These Are The Voyages: Mission Compendium Volume 1 are being finished off by our factory in about a week and will be shipped to our warehouse the week of the 16th October, which means with shipment from Europe, stock will be checked in and prepared for dispatch from Monday 23rd October. Customers in the United States should be aware that delivery of these items can take 10 days. Tracking details are provided at the point of dispatching them in the UK, but the actual information will not be live until the packages are ready to go out of the country, around 48 hours later. Any order that also contains These Are The Voyages, alongside Borg cubes, drones, and bundles, will be processed and dispatched from 23rd October as noted above.

Incredibly bad business. I love Modiphius products and have spent a sizable amount of money on them, but I will not make the mistake to pre-order anything from them again.

I have yet to receive shipping notification for my starter bundle order. For other pre-orders I have not had any problems with shipping, in fact my pre-order for These are the Voyages shipped pretty much the day the books hit the warehouse. I can only imagine that something went terribly awry with the bundles that included the GM screen, but to be honest, like many people here I am not happy with the repeated promises of ‘next week’ or ‘wait a couple of days and if you hear nothing I will look into it’. I think given the tardiness in shipping, an enquiry into the status of the order should get a more specific response, and given a little more urgency. If all orders are supposed to have shipped then there is a problem, if GameQuest are still trying to clear the backlog then you should tell us that this is the case and confirm that the order is in that backlog. We all understand that things do not go according to plan, but this seems to have been a bit of a disaster, and I think a clearer picture of where things are at is needed.

I've ordered enough RPG books and Kickstarted enough things that "next week.... actually next next week... okay the week after that..." is pretty par for the course. While Modiphius was saying "September" for the release I was nodding and saying, "October at the earliest[i/]" to myself.
That said... I was expecting October or November and I'm currently looking at December, so the delays were pretty bad in this instance. But, I also have an RPG book on my shelf that came out a year late.

It's unfortunate that some stores got the books before a few orders. I'm uncertain it's feasible to get pre-orders to everyone before stores. Is there a way short of contacting every person before even shipping to stores? Someone is always going to slip through.

I received my order of the Deck Tiles and These Are the Voyages, thank you. The products are gorgeous.

I am awaiting another shipment of a starter bundle and a core rulebook, which DHL says is now in Canada.

It's not that difficult. Pre-orders had a cut off date. If things have been shipped to everyone that ordered by that date, then release to the masses. There's no reason why LGS should have had product a month or so before pre-orders.

Guys, Sam has given me the go ahead to give you his email and invite you to send him your questions about your orders. He's the Star Trek line manager and has promised to look into your issues personally.

You can email him at

But how do you guarantee they shipped to everyone? You can check that things have shipped (inventories should happen) but there's no guarantee they've been received and orders were not missed. The *only* way is to contact each customer directly and have them confirm the product was received. And even then, if an order wasn't shipped out, you likely won't have record to contact them.
You can't even rely on tracking numbers and shipping companies because deliveries go awry.

What about bundled orders? If one part is delayed (like a GM screen or a box) should Game Stores not receive anything?

Also, game stores don't make money with stuff on order. They don't make money with stuff sitting on the shelves. They make money on selling product. They're not going to be happy if part of their rent money that month is tied up in pre-orders that haven't shipped to customers yet.

I'm not saying "wait until everyone has received them" I am saying wait until the preorders have shipped to them and that you can track. If you can't then you have a very faulty business model. That is my particular bee in the bonnet, that my local game store had the books weeks before my pre-order even shipped. Why bother pre-ordering then?

Is there any update on the Borg Drone Bundle? I haven't heard word in over a month...

Hi Sterling, I am emailing Sam the Star Trek line manager now on that exact issue. Last I heard from Lloyd is it was going to go out this week or next week, though I heard the same thing the first time I emailed a few weeks before that. I am also trying to find out if I'll get confirmation it shipped and/or a tracking number.

I'll let you know his response in this thread if it seems relevant.
Cheers

Quick response!

"Hi Chris

All the Drones arrived in our warehouse on Wednesday, and are being processed ready for fulfilment. They’ll be sent out at the beginning of next week and should take around 5 days to get to you.

You should receive tracking as it leaves the UK. Let me know if you don’t hear anything by mid-next week.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks

Hope you see this, Sterling.
