Important announcement from Patrick Goodman

posted Sep 20, 2017 23:29:31 by SteveHanson
And all of a sudden, Samuel Webb says it's okay for me to talk about the latest project I was working on. This is going to seem a little spammy, since I'll be posting to my wall and the Trek tabletop group I'm in to make sure everyone sees it. So if you see this more than once, I apologize.

I preface this by saying I don't know when this is going to see the light of day, or in what product. I'll let Sam deal with that on his own timetable; he's kind of busy getting other books ready and a lot of pre-orders out the door, so he's got a full plate.

There was some commentary about there not being any stats for the iconic crews from the various Star Trek TV series. A decision was made to change this. Several of the game's writers were approached with this weighty responsibility; I was one of them.

So there are going to be stats for the main characters coming out in the not-too-distant future. All five series are being written up. I was given the honor (and the terrifying responsibility) of writing up the crews for both the Original Series and Enterprise. I hope, when they see the light of day, you'll think I've done them justice.

And I posted it in the other thread, too. We've really got this covered!

All I ask is that Captain Archer gets a Talent called "Oh, boy."

Some 'advanced' or 'experienced' variations, or perhaps a sidebar for them, would be cool, for those of us playing in slightly later time periods to canon shows, please.

Yeah, assembling my dream crew on the Enterprise D, with Quark running Ten-Forward, Trip Tucker the Engine roome and Bones the Sickbay.... but who will be Captain....?

@LucasCunningham, That very question will start actual fights.

@TomK It likely wouldn't be that much more advanced... the system for advancement in STA allows for flexibility, but relatively little significant enhancement of skills/abilities over time... which seems quite reasonable to me.

Can't wait! Modiphius Conan RPG has stats for Conan and his supporting cast, so why not?

It'll be interesting to see how the official stats compare with what I came up with.

Glad to read that this is coming. It struck me as a strange decision to NOT provide stats for the series characters, but to ONLY provide miniatures for the series characters.

I felt it was pretty weird to create miniatures for Kirk, Spock, Picard, etc, too. But what do you anticipate doing with the stats of these characters?

I'm honestly curious. Are people really planning to run a campaign where you're taking on the roles of Archer, Janeway, Riker, etc? Rather than just making up your own characters and ship?

Actually standing for the series characters, theyd be good for one-shots, demos, and convention games, I suppose, but honestly I don't know that I'll get a whole lot of use out of them, beyond a handy set of pregen stats. I just figure if those are the only miniatures that will be provided in the foreseeable future, stats aren't a bad idea.

I'm not, but by exclusively offering figures that are identifiably the series characters, Modiphius communicates some level of expectation that this is what people will do, so maybe research indicate that many will.

Oh wow, I'm really excited about this. While I think the Starfleet characters are relatively straightforward, I'm especially excited to see what you guys do regarding the non-Starfleet characters, e.g. Quark, Neelix, etc.
My Group currently has two non-Starfleet characters and its always great to get inspiration from other sources.
Hopefully the DS9 characters include the extended family, i.e. Garak, Nog, etc.

Pretty sure Garak is there. Can't remember about Rom or Nog. I didn't do the DS9 crew.

If the characters will have a single profile (as opposed to having variations depending on where in the shows/movies you look at said characters) have you decided on a set date for all of them? Or is it too early in the process/something you can't reveal yet?
