Jeweled Thrones: Caves of the Dero missing information.

posted Sep 07, 2017 21:20:14 by Travis White
In The Caves of the Dero, The second scene begins with "The room with a star is a ramp" (58). I can't find any reference to a room with a star in the text or on a map. Where is this ramp located? There is a staircase discoverable near the pond, but a staircase is not a ramp and this leads to the mines.

I second that question. Sadly, there are quite some parts that are missing or unclear in JToE.

It also claims that there is a map of the mines/caverns at the end of the adventure but there is not. And... I can't picture what is happening with the "giant statue" It says the mines are the cheek of the enormous statue. Ok, is the statue on its side? The mines were cut from above, how do they integrate into a statue? I need a picture of what is going on here. Likewise, where is the tower located (in regards to the statue) It sounds like the tower was built on the statue more recently. Help!

The Page number that references the circle of power in the Core book is about 40 pages off as well.

I also agree with the above. I didn't get the description with the cheek as well. But I only read it once.

I believe that the updated .pdf and map pack (downloadable through the Pledge Manager) have an updated map.

Sorry Jason, just checked, it’s the same version I’m referencing. Could certainly use an update though.

SPOILERS

I am even more confused: Both otherwordly critters are too closely named and one (the godling) lacks a description. Also, its not clear where is the Watcher in the Pool's said pool located.

Simple editing mistakes, easily avoided.

And what happens to the copy machine if the PCs want to use it?

The author says:

Re: the watcher. Its a lovecraftian magical parasite. Re: the copying machine. It creates a copy of the character thats 4ft tall.

This creation has the same mindset as a dero.

Hello

I got what it is but what does it *look* like?

Thanks for your response!

Seethers in the Dark map. This is the author's original drawing. I want to know what parts you'd like us to add to the revised official map.

Sure: from my previous thread http://14062642.weebly.talkiforum.com/20170820/the-seethers-in-darkness-the-jeweled-thrones--5526561/?viewmark=1

"There's a map on p. 127 of the city beneath. On p. 124 (in the Ahmin Selini's route through the city) it says that the map sports a dotted line, showing Seleni's route.

Also, p. 125 (first column, last sentence) reads "The Xs shown on the map are suggested places for "Finds" (...).

The map has neither a spotted line nor "xs" marked on it."

Also maybe some clarification of the random event 15 in the same adventure: "Anyway, I never read the random event (15) as the PC falling into the main tomb. It says "...plunges into the abyss, taking 3 [CD] and finding themselves trapped in the crypt mentioned below...". What crpyt mentioned below? The main tomb is not called a crypt but the temple and is only described pages later. Also, it says on p. 129 that the chamber with the temple is 70 feet below the level of the main corridors - that should be more than 3[CD] falling damage I think."

If I may be so egoistic: since we already played the Seethers in the Dark, a correct version of the map (and/or description in the text) of the acheronian villa in "Caves of the Dero" would be (even) more appreciated since that is the next adventure for our group.

As always, thanks in advance.

I hate to add fuel to this fire regarding the mistakes in "Dero," but here are some other issues:
There is a Watcher and there is a Thing in the Pond. It's unclear what is what sometimes. Which one awakens when the Circles in the Triangular room are disturbed? I'm running this tomorrow and it seems that the WATCHER should emerge, if the Circles are disturbed,as a "helpful" familiar. It makes more sense to have the Thing in the Pond emerge while the PCs are sneaking around the ruins instead of after they have already gotten through the Green Door. It would certainly set up an eerie display after the PCs have pounded on the Green Door for awhile, only to later hear an enormous pounding on the same, while they try to rest in the ruins.

Minor Issue, but the map of the Magic Circle room map does NOT show the exit corridor that is referred to in the text.

Shouldn't the Monstrous Form (M,) for the Thing from the Pond, be a Threaten attack (T) instead?

The map of Hybris has two Bakeries in the Legend. Also doesn't look anything like the "Villa" on the bigger scale map.

Footprints lead to the forest and back to the Yard from the kitchen? As in the "Yard" area number 6 (or 5 depending on what you're reading)? That doesn't seem likely, and I can't even image the Yard being enclosed with stone. No pond seems to exist on the map. I've decided to not even use the "Hybris" map as it doesn't make any sense and has too many errors.

For those struggles like me, I'm going to place the Yard off the map, outside (not "Room Six"). Outside it would be more logical to "hide" the staircase down to the Green Door with overgrowth, as the adventure states. I'm making "Room Six" the pens, since it's larger and "Room Five" on the map an extension of the kitchen.
