Full-auto pushing

So I picked up Mutant:YZ recently, and while I'm enjoying what I'm reading so far, one thing in particular irks me: Why do you need to spend ammo when pushing? It makes sense if you push more than once, but if a scrap gun can be pushed once without wasting ammo, then why can't an assault rifle that most likely comes with a semi-auto function?

On a similar note, I had the idea for a house rule where you can keep adding a gear die to your roll at the cost of one bullet each. Does that sound fair?

One way to go that isn't even against the rule (or, well, sort of) is that the player who uses the weapon that can fire automatic fire needs to declare that he does so before he shoots. If he doesn't, he will be using the normal rules - using one bullet, can push once, against one target but IF he declares automatic fire he needs to spend one extra bullet per push but can also shoot one target per bullet (according to the normal automatic fire rules).

This way he can set the weapon on "semi-automatic" and it works like a better version of the automatic pistol but he can also set it to "automatic" and can spray. The best of two worlds.

Yeah, I suppose that kinda works, but it still feels wrong to me. Wouldn't it make more sense to spend a second bullet after the first push?

You need to declare before firing if you fire full-auto or not. If you do, you can push multiple times but at the cost of one bullet each time. If you fire a single shot, you can push once without spending an extra bullet.

The houserule sounds interesting!
