Michael Wittman

posted Oct 13, 2016 11:18:17 by PeterAppleyard
Has anyone come up with a good scenario to use the Wittman unit card in. I have found it is not as simple as "give the allies 5 stars". It really dominates in a stand up fight, I want a scenario that is well balanced, any ideas.

Hi Peter,

I played out a scenario here http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=420456

It was fun and the Americans gave my Germans a run for their money when playing solo.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks I'll give it a go. I'm enjoying collecting all the German armour, but the allies don't have a great choice, which I'm sure was a complaint in 1944.

Perhaps there will be more choice in the full rule set when it comes out

Could do with the Pershing and Comet although they are a bit later. Most of the time my Shermans go up in one, so I have found the M10 is better, it still goes up in one, but I get more attack dice.

It depends really on if Modiphius are going to break away from listing only vehicles that Airfix made kits of. As far as I can see, Airfix never made a Comet or Pershing model, but you never know.

I don't know how popular the game is. It seems to have taken some interest in the solo wargamer arena, and among old-school wargamers, but I haven't yet seen it stocked in model shops or toy shops selling Airfix kits. This is a shame, as I think it would do well at Christmas with Mum's and Dad's looking for something for "little Johnie" who like making models, etc.

If the game does (or is) take(ing) off, then perhaps we'll see much more. Airfix did a few desert models and had 8th army and Africa Korps figures. They also did US Marines and Japanese figures (the American Wargamers are sure to love those) and so a Far-East expansion with cards and maps could also be on the cards.

For the moment, I'd settle for the full-rules book! (Hint, hint Admin - Any comments, teasers, dates?) :-)

Cheers,

Mark

I have been surprised not to see it in games shops and model shops. Airfix don't seem to be supporting it much either. I believe it is a really good system and I enjoy it a lot more than "Flames of War" which I found very frustrating, because of the thick rulebook which the 'lawyers' used to negate everything I tried (or so it felt).
I too am getting very impatient for the expanded rules, but I have long experience of games companies missing release dates.

Just been looking at Airfixs back catalogue and as far as I can tell they never produced the M10 tank destroyer or the Greyhound armoured car, so they have set a president for unit cards of models not produced by Airfix.

Mark, if I knew anything I'd share it with you and my wife doesn't let me date.

Just managed to win a game in which my opponent used "Michael Wittman". 20 star scenario which started badly for me, then I took out his Panzer commander which limited his actions (I took 2 commanders, he only took the one) and ended after 5 turns with a score of 11-10 to me.

Cool - Good lessons learned by the sound of things.

I had to use a 2 star Sherman as a shield to protect my Firefly commander just to keep my card hand up. By the end the only armour I had was a 3 star Sherman, if there had been any more turns I most likely would have lost.
