I found a good TNG unofficial ship on DeviantArt which could be useful for gaming as it has only 44 crew so is good for controlling trigger happy players.

If you want a small, TNG era ship, I think your best canonical option is the Nova-class. 8 decks, minimal weapons, crew compliment of 78. There's a mini available from Wizkids (USS Equinox expansion).
Also, the Oberth was still in use TNG era, and there's the Constellation, which Picard described as a small ship...

Of course there's always Runabouts as well, perfect for a four-person crew or so, if away team style missions are more the focus. They could probably hold their own against other small ships, like blockade runners, smugglers, and even the occasional pirate depending on the craft's operational loadout. You could even have assigned to a local outpost or starbase in the same/nearby sector - or heck, even working in concert with a larger capital ship in the area. I'd be shocked in playable details on the Danube-class weren't released, but I'm sure you know all about that. And worst case, just make your own vessel based on existing stat blocks that fits your game!
