An Attribute becomes absolute Zero

posted Aug 04, 2016 07:58:11 by Aryxbez
I can't seem to find it where in the Rules what happens should a character hit zero in an attribute Permanently. Such as through Mutation misfire, what would happen if that stat was 1 and decreased to zero?

Far as I can tell, you're "Broken" forever, nearly unplayable, and anyone can coup-de-grace you. Otherwise it sounds like Flavor-wise you're supposed to disintegrate? (I.E. Automatically die)

If I'm missing a ruling please let me know the pages its stated on, can't find it for the life of me right now.

Eh, more degenerate than disintegrate. Think more along the lines of lethal tumors, organ failure, horrific bleeding from all orifices, etc. It's time to pull out a new character sheet. To pirate a line from those more eloquent than I,"They have rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible, they are an ex-mutant."
Now, there is nothing that explicitly states New Mutation+Permanent Trauma to 0=Death, it's mainly implied. Of course, it may have been updated in a later printing.
It all boils down to "It's up to you". I recommend death, but that's because I've got enough to deal with in the game than having to keep track of a mutant leper colony.
"And what rough beast,
It's hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? "

Hi!

As you always get to choose which attribute is permanently reduced (see the table on page 69), it will take a very long time for a PC to hit zero in any attribute - as long as you have a score of 2 or more in any other attribute, you need to reduce that one instead. Only when you have a score of 1 in all four attributes, and suffer another permanent attribute loss, will an attribute hit zero. Then your PC is degenerated beyond repair - time to roll up a new character! This scenario should be very rare however, requiring a long campaign and PC that manages to stay alive long enough. :)
