Playtest Alpha V1-0 subtopic (Momentum Spends)

Since this is liable to take the main topic well off track I'm making a subtopic.
This is to post idea's for momentum spends that you think should be in Conan. Try to keep to format so that people can easily use your idea's who knows if a spend becomes particularly popular it may feature in the end work.

If you have a rough idea about what you want to see and aren't sure how to codify the idea post the idea and I'll try to come back to you.

Feint (3 momentum to gain the Exploit weakness manoeuvre for your next action)
Careful Strike (Momentum spent improves damage rolled by +1/M)
Wild Strike (Momentum spent improves damage rolled by +[cd]1/M)
Vengeful blow (1 momentum to reroll any and all Combat dice rolled this turn for damage)
Quick Strike (2 Momentum to inflict half the damage of this attack again. round down.)

Disarm (2 Momentum to deprive an opponent of a single handed weapon)
Disarm (3 Momentum to deprive an opponent of a single handed weapon and catch it)
Beat (3 Momentum to deprive an opponent of a two handed weapon)

Stun (1 Momentum to gain the Stun and non lethal special ability for this attack)
Clout (2 Momentum to gain the Stun special ability for this attack)
Push Back (1 momentum spend forcing the Opponent to move backwards into a non hazardous area)
Force Back(2 momentum spend forcing the Opponent to move backwards into a hazardous area)
Knock Down(2 momentum spend to gain access to the Knockdown special ability for this attack)
Warcry (2 Momentum to gain access to the fearsome special ability)
Berserk Fury (2 Momentum to gain the Vicious 1 and Backlash 1 special abilities)


Zamoran Lunge (1 momentum to take an additional Free action to move after an attack)

As per my feedback, there needs to be a difference between Careful Strike and Wild Strike. The benefit of a guaranteed 1 damage outweighs a roll, unless you are looking for specials (6). Perhaps Careful Strike is 2 Momentum for the first +1 and 1 thereafter, or 2 for 1 which overall still is better mathematically.

Sand/Dust in the Face (1 Momentum to gain the Stun and free action move)

Headbutt the face (2 momentum for single undefended Unarmed Combat vs opponents head. Add Attackers Helmet soak to to damage. If attacker has no helmet and defender does, roll Soak as damage against attacker.)

Taunt (2 momentum for free D1 command check. Success forces opponent to attack recklessly giving the Taunter +1 to attack skill check plus +1 per momentum which must be spent on the taunt check)

Higher/Better Ground (2 momentum to either make attacks vs you D2 or gain a +1 to attack skill check vs opponent)

Taking Steel (3 momentum to take the opponents attack to the body (they roll damage normally to give a free undefended attack with +2 damage. You have also trapped the opponents weapon which requires an opposed strength action to pull out. ONLY USABLE versus Blade Attacks.

Your completely correct about the mathematical superiority of careful strike. However some players prefer the gamble and when you factor in dice rerolls the odds improve a lot.

Like your examples although we try to avoid mid game math where possible. Will provide further thoughts tonight.

That was our favorite in Mongoose Conan :P

Tricky but here goes

Impale (m3) after successfully making a grab action you may spend 3 momentum to inflict an additional injury to your opponent. This injury is in addition to any damage otherwise inflicted but automatically disarms the character of the weapon used to impale. It may be that the blade is lodged tightly in the corpse or that the force of the hit has sent the blade from your hand.

(M2) can be spent in addition to the regular cost to avoid the disarm. The gm is recommended to allow the PC to kick the NPC of their blade (for no damage) as a free action.

Sand in the face is covered in sorcery at the moment.

Headbutt. 2momentum (quick strike for melee damage)

Taunt (mock sounds much better) 1 momentum. On a successful parry the attacker must make a diff(m) discipline check or use next action to attack the person making mockery.

Higher ground. This is covered by opposed rolls rules.

Taking steel sounds like a voluntary parry failure followed by using the luck gained to butcher the NPC.
