Momentum Bonus Damage vs Penetration

posted Mar 05, 2015 19:22:35 by Alakhai
I dont know if I should put this here or in the normal forum.

What is the difference of these two? It is simpler remove the Penetration, because both have the same effect in the end, do +1 damage to the objetive.

Obviously, this late in the game there's only so much we can do in terms of changes - anything that requires significant changes to the laid-out text is a no-no. However, we've got a list of errors and adjustments that could be made and which require as minor adjustments to the text as possible.

If memory serves, we were planning to change Penetration to ignoring 2 Soak per Momentum spent, but I'm not 100% certain on that right at the moment - I'm busy working on sourcebooks and supplements for Mutant Chronicles.

It was 2 Soak per momentum, but it was changed to 1 Soak per momentum since 9.5 I think.

Lots of changes from about version 7 onwards are basically nudges and tweaks - the core of the system was solid quite early. If memory serves, Soak reduction was 1 per Momentum at around the same time as you could buy individual damage dice with Momentum, before we switched to a flat +1 damage per Momentum. A lot of that tweaking came around the time we were finalising damage values for weapons and the Soak values that would accompany them.

We've had some problems with these as well.. both of these momentum spends basically do the same thing (Penetration and Increased Damage spends). I decided to remove the Penetration spend altogether as the AP quality does that in a fashion.

Liking the Penetration Momentum eliminating 2 Armour Soak. It gives it a situational effectiveness where you can push your attack through thick armour like the Imperial Mk.III but it doesn't completely negate the value of adding extra damage.
