Changes made to 2d20 System from Infinity Playtest

posted Feb 11, 2015 23:59:55 by Nicholas Simpson
I'm curious whether some of the changes being tried out in the Infinity Playtest will make their way to the Mutant Chronicles rules. I understand that the rules for Infinity are still pending quite a bit, but I'm curious about thoughts on them.

One major existing difference is the use of a response action to fire back at someone in Infinity. Is this seen as incompatible with the MC3 setting/rules, or is it okay to incorporate it?

Here are some pending differences that are currently being playtested and subject to change. Any chance of these being added to the MC3 rules, or are those already set? I personally don't mind there being a delay on the rules coming out, because I want them to be as polished as possible, but I know there are business realities to consider. So, any developers able to provide insight on whether its possible for these to make it into the MC3 corebook?

-Momentum are currently being tested to only allow banked momentum to be used on rolls that have at least one success.
-Players may take as many response actions as they wish, doubling the DSP cost each time.
-NPCs may spend their momentum 1:1 to gain heat points for the GM.

There's a lot being bounced around and considered, and some changes - where they're small clarifications and easy to insert into the text without having to significantly change the layout - may find their way into the MC3 rulebook.

However, there will be natural differences between MC3 and Infinity, owing in part to differences in style and tone between settings.

There's a lot being discussed at the moment, so I can't commit to any definitive answers at this stage.

Other question:
How many sighs are there around the office when I send you thousand word emails nitpicking various aspects of the system? Is any kind of feedback more valuable than the other?

I wouldn't know about sighs - I work from home - but you're certainly picking up a reputation... I'm working through your latest one now, in amongst other tasks.

Nicholas all feedback is welcome don't worry! We're making some tweaks to the Infinity version of 2d20 to better reflect the tabletop game system including the reactive fire. We won't be making more changes to the core book, otherwise it would require chapters to be re-laid out and that would delay us a lot - and plenty of people want their books asap. There will be some updates we'll do introducing new rules concepts developed for other games in the form of a 2d20 booklet - still working on the idea for that, but it will give you lots more rules options.
