I've just begun our campaign and I'm pretty happy with the Ark design that the PC's came up with.

Because the campaign is set in Yorkshire, England, the Ark is in an old abandoned mine (and no, none of the mutants look like whippets, and but I may include some that wear flat caps!)

The Elder is critically ill, and is situated inside the mine itself. Entry underground is gained by the still standing miners wheel house and lift, but it's regulated by a bureaucratic boss. The great thing about this is that it's allowed me to put in a plot thread where he's become the "Voice of the Elder", refusing access to the old man by all but for the most important of reasons.

The water source is an old pump house, that drew water in from clean water storage reservoirs to the north in order to cool the machinery, and run the showers etc. (Technology 10)

So far, the PC's have built up a watchtower on one of the old buildings (now warfare 2), but hunting parties are hastily being arranged, seeing as it's the middle of winter, and everyone is slowly starving to death (food supply 1). In fact, things are so bad, that one of the work gang boss' (revolutionary) is calling for the agreement to eat the dogs!

With the Elder being so ill, the day to day operations of the Ark are being organised by another boss who is a Commander. This means that everyone has a function, and thus there is little time for any kind of entertainment (culture 0).

Cool, I like an Ark in a mine!

Our Ark (Subway Station)was acquired by automaton.
The People lost battle with automaton, now are divided and seeking a new home...

Our game Zone is situated near Strasbourg (see image).

Our Ark is a port (see image).
The elder is situaded inside the boat, and the artifacts are stored in a container on the boat.
There are 3 caids :
- Mao, a revolutionnary communist who wants democracy and work for all
- Marlow, a military man who wants the best for the Atch, in a military way
- Milix, the leader of a sect of fanatics, workshipping himself as a half-god

The water source is a tank which is filled by rain water recovered with a large plastic cover

I work in West Bromwich, in the Black Country, so I took a map of the area and drew a 2cm square grid over it (using Paint). Each square is 1 square mile. My Ark is called the Centre, and is based on West Bromwich Jobcentre. You are encouraged to add a few mysterious things to the map (which may or may not be true). So, Turner’s Hill, about 2 miles SW became the Two Towers (because it has two large water towers on it), Quinton Cemetery has a warning about Zone-Ghouls, the M5/M6 interchange is the Broken Bridges and beyond this “Here be Monsters”. East, towards Birmingham, there are mysterious lights in the sky at night.

The Centre is ruled by an Elder called Saint John (St. John), the Elder is dying. The Ground floor is the territory of Boss Duggan, who wants to dominate the local area and make the Centre feared. Boss 2 is called Belend and aims to expand the Centre by peaceful means; but knows that they need to find a good supply of grub and water before they can take in more people. Boss 3 on the top floor is called Jukas; she is obsessed with ancient technology and making it work.

Like everywhere else, the currency of the Centre is bullets. You start with a certain number and can use them to trade or in weapons if you have a firearm. The valuables in the Centre are stored in the Vault; Boss Duggan currently is in charge of this.

Water is a current problem, the Centre tapped into a water tower nearby but this is running out.

The Centre is home to about 180 of the People, roughly split equally between the bosses. Everyone, of course, follows the Elder.

I decided to do our Ark as an amusement park, I whited out the names of all locations on the legend of the map and replaced them with "Boss" locations, and "Elder" house and created watch towers from rides and facilitated the ponds/lakes in the park as drinkable water sources.

Wow! Wish I'd thought of that - what a fantastic concept

Thanks, I'll post an updated map once we play a few games with it and add more to our community.

Here's the ark that my group came up with... it's based around the Main & Terminal Skytrain Station and Vancity building in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

You can see where the PC's dens are and areas where the bosses control

Cool! Can't make the link work, but even the small image here on the forum looks great.

We commandeered the Mather steamship museum for our Cleveland-based campaign, though it broke in half and beached itself in Lakewood at some point in time.
